A Call for a Second Industrial Revolution
The first Industrial Revolution sparked a movement of technological advances that dramatically changed – and improved – the global way of life. But as people worldwide use and abuse these modern conveniences, we must consider the long term impact of our actions and our ability to sustain these energies in the long term.
An article in the science journal NATURE calls for a second Industrial Revolution to implement the widespread use of alternative, sustainable technologies: solar, hydro, nuclear and wind energy; plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles; natural gas and alternative liquid-transportation fuels. By incorporating and advancing the many uses of these emerging technologies for both transportation and stationary needs, we will better be able to keep up with the ever-growing global demand for energy.
